Premenopause
All female patients who are in their 40's are highly recommended to contact
our office to schedule a bone density and vitamin D study prior to going
into menopause. Vitamin D levels are checked through a blood test, and
recently the recommended minimum daily intake of vitamin D has been raised
from 400 I.U. to 1000 I.U. As always, your health is important to us and my
staff is available to assist you in scheduling the above tests.
A Brief Overview on
Muscle Testing At birth we are born perfect. All muscles are completely balanced, nerves are normal, and all of our organs and tissues are functioning at 100%. As a result we have perfect posture consisting of level hips, shoulders, and head. We remain in a perfect state of balance until such a time we are subject to types of stress beyond what our bodies can adapt to. One must bear in mind we are constantly under stress. We are under physical stress from gravity, our occupations, and from straining, lifting, slipping, and jarring. We are under dietary stress from the foods we eat and/or the lack of proper foods consumed by our bodies. Additional sources of stress are a lack of sleep as well as a lack of exercise. Our emotions cause a great deal of stress. In fact, every problem in our...more |

Cell Phone Usage
I have reviewed all the latest research on cell phones and problems in the central nervous system such as cancers or hemorrhagic conditions. It is my opinion that research will continue to validate that there are problems with holding a cell phone close to you're head, as well as using blue tooth earpieces with small antennas.
It is now recommended that you do not place your cell phone closer than 1 inch from your ear. This can be accomplished by stretching your finger out and touching your finger to your head, thereby keeping the phone away. If you currently use blue tooth it would be better to use a wire contact and ear piece as opposed to an antenna, as the antenna concentrates the energy at your ear. Safest, of course, is to keep the phone away from your body completely but that is not practical. I will continue to stay abreast of the research and update when needed.
Gumby
Being Gumby when you are young is a good thing, but when you become an adult it always leads to joint problems. Ligaments hold bones together. All the joints in the body, vertebra etc, are two or more bones held together by ligaments. When we're young our ligaments are like brand new rubber bands, they stretch out and snap back to normal quite easily. But, when we get older the blood supply to our ligaments decreases and therefore they are unable to go through the normal healing process. When they are stretched or damaged they no longer hold the bones in the proper alignment, causing the joint to become hypermobile. This is a bad enough problem in people with normal ligaments, but those of us with really genetically loose ligaments (this used to be called being double jointed) have much more severe joint problems as adults. These individuals should avoid activities that hyper stretch their joints such as yoga, some pilates moves, and martial arts where the joints are manipulated. Also, forceful chiropractic adjustments should be limited and very specific. In our office we have had very good success with treating these type of patients with combination therapies. |
